Rivers United’s first assistant coach, Yemi Olanrewaju, has disclosed that he is excited to remain at the club until the end of his contract, www.aclsports.com reports.
Olanrewaju, Yema as he is fondly called, has been linked by a section of the media to the vacant Shooting Stars job.
However, he has responded to those links by revealing his desire to remain committed to the project led by head coach Finidi George.
“I love Shooting Stars and its project and we have had contacts in the past and it is a club I will always consider but for now, My focus and everything is with Rivers United as I will like to honour my contract till the end of the season,” the former Enyimba head coach responded to a post in a closed group.
Olanrewaju went ahead to stress the importance of the management of Rivers United to him and his boss George.
“I don’t like to abandon contract and run halfways. Rivers United Management have been so good and kind to me and the trust they place on me is unbelievable and also my boss Finidi George,” the coach added.
The Finidi-Olanrewaju combo delivered one NPFL title at Enyimba, and they were close once again last season. Meanwhile, they’ve made multiple runs on the continent including a group stage appearance in the CAF Champions League last season.
“Shooting Stars is a club I will always feel honoured to be linked with or mentioned with it. If the opportunity comes again in the future I will be glad to consider it as I believe the union will be massive,” Yemi Olanrewaju concluded on the links to the Oluyole Warriors.
Yemi Olanrewaju had a brief stint at Enyimba, where he led them to the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup before he was dismissed from the role in December 2024.
