New Enyimba captain and league veteran Stanley Dimgba has declared that the glory of the Aba giants is coming back as they prepare for their first outing in the 2026/27 NPFL season, www.aclsports.com reports.
Enyimba are nine-time champions of the NPFL and are the only side with multiple CAF Champions League titles in Nigerian football. However, they have been going through a dip in the past two seasons, finishing outside the continental places and beating the drop on the final day last term.
Speaking ahead of their league opener against Niger Tornadoes in Minna, the 33-year-old disclosed that the players are going to approach the game positively and give their all to make the club proud.
“I know that the players are going to approach the game in a positive way because we have been working hard, playing friendly matches. So this is a time for all the players to show what they are made of. So I believe that this match today will make the players know that this is Enyimba,” Dimgba told Enyimba media.
”This is not the other clubs they came from. So everybody is prepared, their mindset, everybody. So I believe that we are going to give our best today to make Enyimba proud. Enyimba is a big club, and I have been here, played, went out, and I’m back again. The mood in the camp is good. And I believe all the players that are here, they are working hard in cooperation. So I believe that the mood is good and we are going to give our best to make Enyimba proud,” the former Stellenbosch winger added.
Dimgba, who returned to Enyimba last season, is fully aware of the situation at the Aba giants, and he has promised the fans that they will not be disappointed at the end of the campaign.
“I know that what happened here last season, the fans are disappointed. And I believe that this season, they will not be disappointed. The glory of Enyimba is coming back. So I want to tell them that they should keep supporting us. And this season, we are going to make them proud,” Dimgba concluded.
Enyimba will be guests of Niger Tornadoes at the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna in one of the nine NPFL matches on offer on Sunday in the opening weekend of the new season.
