Sporting Lagos compounded the woes of Enyimba to emerge one of the biggest winners of NPFL match day five action concluded on Wednesday, www.acslports.com reports.
The Tech Boys, who suffered a shock defeat to Abia Warriors last weekend, recovered twice from being behind to emerge 3-2 winners at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba.
After squandering several goalscoring opportunities, Enyimba raced to a late lead in the first half after Stanley Dimgba stabbed home a cross in the area.
Just after the break, Sporting Lagos found themselves level as substitute Abdullahi Abdulroqeeb headed home a cross from Haruna Hadi. However, following an handball incident in the Sporting box, Enyimba were awarded a spot-kick and Tobi Iyanda dispatched it expertly to restore the home side’s lead.
With time running out, Sporting Lagos upped the ante and found the leveller again through Hadi after some fine combination play between the midfielder and striker Aliyu Baba. In the 68th minute, Aliyu was key again as he set up substitute Daniel Aboh to put Sporting ahead for the first time in the game.
Coach Jeff Buter’s boys were comfortable for most period of the game, and when Enyimba came forward, goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt made some fine stops to keep them in front. In the end, the Lagos side saw out another win on the road – their second of the 2026/27 season.
In Ibadan, Shooting Stars made lightwork of Katsina United thanks to goals from Rilwan Olarenwaju and Qamar Adegoke. Barau FC also defeated Abia Warriors 2-0 courtesy of goals from Joseph Atule and Ibrahim Ayoola in Kano to go top.
Defender Chidozie Iwundu was the match winner for champions Rangers against Ranchers Bees in Owerri. It finished 1-1 between Inter Lagos and Kano Pillars in Lagos. Friday Ubong scored for the visitors, while Bashir Abdulkareem scored for the home side.
Kwara United also edged Nasarawa United in the North Central derby in Ilorin. Sanni Muhammed and Abdulsalam Abdulsalam scored for the Harmony Boys, while Jofrank Istifanus scored for the Solid Miners.
It finished goalless between Niger Tornadoes and Warri Wolves, while it ended in an entertaining 2-2 draw between Doma United and Plateau United. Michael Adegbite scored twice for the hosts before the visitors rallied back thanks to goals from Gideon Monday and Paul Samson.
The final game of the match day between Rivers United and Kun Khalifat will be played on Thursday.
