NPFL Review: Plateau United win big, Doma United beaten

The 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League season continued at the weekend for match day 14 as Plateau United thrashed Bayelsa United 5-1 to move into the top four, www.aclsports.com reports.

Forward Albert Hilary stole the shown as he notched a brilliant hattrick with Nenrot and Chimezie Izuchukwu contributing the other goals. Bayelsa United got their goal through Ekeson Okorie.

In Lafia, Lobi Stars defeated Doma United 2-1 to end the Gombe side’s nine-game unbeaten run. Stanley Oganbor’s early goal for the Pride of Benue set them on their way before Suleiman Mojereoma added a second with ten minutes to play. However, Doma got a consolation goal througu Samuel Enefiok in stoppage time.

In Akure, Sunshine Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by struggling Gombe United. The Owena Waves went in front through Uko Aniete before substitute Ahmed Jimoh scored a screamer to nick a point for the visitors.

Heartland’s home form continued to improve as they defeated Akwa United 1-0 in Owerri. Chidiebere Ajoku scored the game’s only goal on the stroke of halftime.

Meanwhile, Rangers claimed their first win in five games as they defeated Sporting Lagos 2-0 in Awka. Austin Onyemaechi’s first half goal and Kenechukwu Agu’s late penalty got the Flying Antelopes back to winning ways.

It was a goalfest between Abia Warriors and Shooting Stars in Umuahia. Anayor Ogbonna handed the Oluyole Warriors the lead before the home side found the leveller through  Kelechi Nnochiri before the break. The visitors had the chance to go infront again but Gbolagade Adelowo’s spot kick was saved by goalkeeper Sharp Uzoigwe.

After the break, Ifeanyi Anaemena scored a penalty before the hour mark and Samson Obi increased the home side’s lead. Kareem Ademola got another goal for 3SC late on but the home side held on for the win.

Meanwhile, the clash between Rivers United and Enyimba did not take place due to the continent commitment of the former.
