Newly promoted Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Remo Stars on Thursday ended a run of three successive losses by defeating Kwara United 2-1 in one of the Match Day 9 encounters while in-form Mfon Udoh scored for Akwa United in their 1-1 draw against Abia Warriors.

Playing their final game of the three-match banishment sentence at the Osogbo Township Stadium, forward Mathias Ogwuche scored both goals for Remo, either side of Daberechi Anyanwu’s first goal in Kwara United colours to give Kennedy Boboye a breather after what has been a turbulent fortnight.

In Umuahia, Abia Warriors took the lead courtesy of a sublime volley by Chinedu Ozor in the 28th minute but Udoh replied five minutes later for his fifth goal of the season, the third in successive matches.

FC Ifeanyiubah remained in top spot in Group B after a 1-0 win over El-Kanemi Warriors in Nnewi. Winger Emmanuel Ugwuka scored the game’s only goal in the 34th minute as the Anambra Warriors moved further clear of their nearest rivals.

In Omoku, Go Round continued their topsy-turvy form after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Nasarawa United. Ikechukwu Nwani gave the visitors the lead in the 26th minute but Adeseun Adelani’s second goal in consecutive home games drew them level in the 42nd minute with no further goals in the second half.

Two other games ended in score draws on Thursday. Gombe United scored a stoppage time penalty away at Heartland; Maurice Chigozie’s kick cancelling out Chidiebere Ajoku’s 32nd minute header.

The final game of the day in Akure also ended 1-1 between hosts Sunshine Stars and Insurance. Moses Kalu gave the visitors the lead on 64 minutes before Anthony Omaka equalised for the Owena Whales with his first goal in a Sunshine shirt fifteen minutes from time.
