Kano Pillars secured a 1-1 draw at neighbours Katsina United to go top of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) table on a day the number of draws matched the number of wins in Nigeria’s top flight.

There were four draws with two of them having ramifications at the top of the table. Rabiu Ali scored once again for  Pillars, this time, a brilliant free kick as Katsina United held the leaders to a 1-1 draw in Katsina. Striker Abdulrasheed Ahmed scored United’s goal.

While the point was enough to take Pillars to the top, Rivers United could have capitalised but they lost ground after they dropped points for the first time at home this season in a 0-0 draw with Abia Warriors.

Warriors goalkeeper Vincent Edafe produced an exceptional performance to deny Stanley Eguma’s Rivers United maximum points

Relegation battlers Adamawa United and Warri Wolves fought out an intriguing 3-3 draw at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe. Anayo Ogbonna twice drew United level after Wolves took leads in the first half before Efe Yarhere headed Wolves ahead again in the second half but Idris Abubakar levelled late on.

There were routine home wins for Nasarawa United and Plateau United. The former completed the double over Heartland FC courtesy of a brace by Abdullahi Aliyu while Mohammed Rabiu Zulkifilu also scored twice in Plateau United’s 4-1 win over Wikki Tourists.

There were also slim wins for FC Ifeanyiubah and MFM FC at the lower rung of the ladder. Ekene Awazie’s 8th minute striker gave Ifeanyiubah full marks over doomed Sunshine Stars while MFM FC made it three wins in a row with a slim win over Lobi Stars.

Akwa United have a chance to go back to the top when they host Rangers International at the Nest of Champions on Monday.
