Women’s AITEO Cup winning goalkeeper, Nnadozie Chiamaka revealed that she is hopeful for a slot in the final list of players for the 11th edition of the Women Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) in Ghana.

The Rivers Angels goalkeeper who has had a stellar season winning the female AITEO Cup and also playing in goal for the Falconets earlier in the year has her say on the U-20 team’s performance in France. “During the camp we trained well and at the tournament we gave our best. Though we didn’t get what we wanted, but we still thank God for where we got to.”

On an individual level, Nnadozie caught the attention of many including winning a man of the match award in the 1-0 win over Haiti at the U-20 World Cup in France. The goalkeeper attributes her performance to the encouragement and support she got from the team and coaching crew.

“Charity John, Tochukwu Oluehi and Alaba Jonathan inspire me a lot when I am training with them because they are good goalkeepers,” she added.

On the Super Falcons, consistently good performances in the league, AITEO Cup and at the U-20 tournament has earned her a national team call-up. “I pray I make it to the final list; though I am carrying a little knock but it shouldn’t be a problem,” she said.

Head Coach of the Super Falcons is expected to release his final list in a few days and with so much tension especially among the home based players, everyone hopes the final list sorted as soon as possible so the team can prepare and concentrate fully for the tournament.
