Ambitious privately owned side Vandrezzer FC made a flying start to their 2020/2021 Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO) campaign after the Development side, coached by Andrew Uwe thrashed Excellent FC 3-1 on Monday.

Uwe, 57, a former Flying Eagles and Green Eagles defender returned to the country last year to take charge of the Vandrezzer young guns and his side exhibited a high level of football artistry which thrilled onlookers at the University of Port Harcourt High Performance Centre.

The Orange Boys eventually got a deserved lead in the 27th minute when big centre forward Idongesit Attah finished home off the inside of the post after a brilliant control and turn of Solomon Gabriel’s low cross.

Just finished watching a top quality performance in #NLO21. Vandrezzer FC, coached by Andrew Uwe (yes, same Andrew Uwe) blew away the ironically named Excellent FC 3-1 in the group opener.

Well coached side the @vandrezzerfc_ Development Side.

Gabriel himself got on the scoresheet for his team’s second goal which came after an exquisite exchange of passes by Uwe’s charges. Midfielder Ekemini Asuquo provided the final pass which set the winger through on goal before the Number 11 finished expertly from ten yards.

Two soon became three six minutes later and it was Attah who got his brace, finishing off another good move, this time, slamming home after team captain Dan Etido teed the ball up nicely for him.

Excellent FC, the team where Enyimba winger Anayo Iwuala obtained his football nursery were handed a lifeline 11 minutes from time when the referee awarded them a spot kick. Former Warri Wolves star Moses Omoduemeke duly obliged but that was as best as it got for the team from Delta state.

Vandrezzer FC’s development team thus put themselves in pole position in the group although there are still more seven matches to be played by the Cubs.

In Monday’s earlier game at the Port Harcourt centre, Koluama United from Bayelsa state edged Chimosky 1-0. Alex Oyowa scored the game’s only goal in the 22nd minute while his teammate Lucky Aputu missed a spot kick late in the first half.

Action continues on Tuesday morning with two matches. Ojinmah FC take on Nordic Academy while Kun Khalifat will face Heartland FC Feeders.
