Three-time African champions, Nigeria, defeated Cameroon and South Africa to seal qualification for the 2026 ITTF World Team Championships in London, www.aclsports.com reports.

At the ongoing ITTF Africa Championships in Tunis, Nigeria’s men’s team produced dominant displays in Group B, defeating both Cameroon and South Africa 3-0 to book their ticket to London. In the women’s category, the Nigerian team also secured qualification in similar fashion after strong performances in their group.

Egypt became the first African team to secure qualification, following convincing victories over Togo and Côte d’Ivoire. Morocco also advanced from Group B, defeating Cameroon and South Africa, and then overcame Nigeria 3-1 to finish at the top of the group. Hosts Tunisia and Algeria topped their respective groups to join the qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Benin and Togo made history by claiming their first-ever spots at the World Team Championships, with Benin defeating Angola 3–1 and Togo edging Côte d’Ivoire 3–2.

The chase for women’s qualification saw familiar powerhouses and new faces make the cut. Joining Nigeria were Egypt, Algeria and Tunisia who confirmed their places in London, while Uganda’s fast-rising side celebrated a landmark first qualification. Ghana overcame Angola in a tight contest, and Madagascar edged Benin Republic to secure their spots.

The ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Finals will take place in London from April 28 to May 10, 2026, marking 100 years since the first World Championships and the founding of the ITTF. A total of 64 teams per gender will compete, with 52 qualifying through continental events, 11 via world rankings (as of November 2025), and one automatic spot for host nation England.
