Nigerian international midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo scored Getafe’s only goal in their 1-1 LaLiga draw against Eibar on Saturday but the energetic midfielder limped off injured in the game.
Etebo, 24, reacted quickly to Angel Luis’s flick to apply a one-time finish on the half hour mark as Getafe went in front against the struggling Eibar side.
However, with seconds of the first half remaining, Eibar drew level in the sixth minute of added time courtesy of Brazilian forward Charles, a goal which turned out to be the last in the encounter decided at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
Etebo’s 30th minute goal was not only his first for the club, but his first in Spain’s top flight in twenty-three matches (both for Las Palmas and Getafe).
The former Warri Wolves star however had his joy soured when he suffered what looked like a muscular injury in the second half. He was subsequently replaced by Jason in the 69th minute.
Getafe coach José Bordalàs confirmed Etebo’s injury worry after the match and adds that the extent will be determined when he goes for a test on Sunday.
“Oghenekaro Etebo and David Timor have had muscle problems. We’ll see the extent of the injuries with tomorrow’s tests,” Bordalàs said.
Saturday’s draw meant that Getafe are still unable to break into the top four of the LaLiga table as they remain one point adrift of Atletico Madrid before the capital side’s game on Saturday night.
Etebo faces a race against time to be fit for Getafe’s trip to Real Valladolid on Tuesday.
