Ever since the inception of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon four years ago, East African runners have always dominated the race in both the male and female categories with the 2019 edition being no exception.

This takes us back to a piece published last year explaining in details why East African runners not only win the Lagos City Marathon but also dominate marathon races all over the world.

That said, the 2019 edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon had a new winner by the name Sintayehu Legese from Ethiopia finishing at 2hrs 17mins 28secs; just a couple of minutes more than what we had last year from Godfrey Chirchir Kiprotich who finished at a record time of 2hrs 15mins 04secs.

In second and third place were Kenyans -Kipkorir Joshua and William Yegon. While Dinke Meseret, Alemnesh Herepa and Kebena Chala; all Ethiopians emerged first to third in the female category.

The first three runners to cross the finish line in both the male and female categories go home with a prize money of $50,000, $40,000 and $30,000 each.

Considering that the East African runners have been found to dominate year after year, in order to encourage the Nigerian runners the first three Nigerians to cross the finish line in both categories went home with the sum of #3m, N2m and N1m each.
