Super Falcons forward Joy Omewa describes Swedish club Häcken as the perfect place to be at right now as she continues to develop as a player.
Omewa joined UEFA Women’s Europa Cup winners Häcken in the summer on a contract until 2029 and has scored three league goals so far.
“I feel like Häcken is a learning experience for me. I think it’s like a stepping stone for me. It’s not the final place I’m going, but it’s the place that’s going to help me grow to the player I want to become. It’s the perfect place to be at right now,” she told www.aclsports.com.
She had a brief spell at Nottingham Forest after moving from Fortuna Hjørring in January 2026, which she recalled as enjoyable.
“It was good. It was a short period, but it was fun while it lasted,” Omewa said.
Asked about the difference between playing in England and Sweden, she added: “I don’t know. There’s no difference, actually. It’s just that I don’t want to play in the WSL 2. If I want to play in England, it has to be in the WSL.”
The 23-year-old has scored three goals for the Super Falcons since her debut and sees the team as a family where players can grow together.
“I feel like the Super Falcons is like a family, a place for us to all grow. There are a lot of players in this camp who have to experience the same things I have experienced. So, it’s a good experience so far,” she said.
Despite missing out on the World Cup, Omewa said the Super Falcons must focus on their Olympic qualification campaign.
“It is what it is. We have to focus on the next thing. I feel like not going to the World Cup is not the end of the world. We just have to focus on the next thing coming up. We have to take it one game at a time and win every game that comes our way,” she said.
Omewa also praised the Flamingos, who are set to compete at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, urging them to maintain their performances and seize their opportunities.
“I feel like they’re doing so well, and they’re in the World Cup, like you said. They should just keep doing what they’re doing, and when the chance comes, they should take it,” she said.
