National Javelin champion, Samuel Kure threw a new Personal Best (PB) to win men’s javelin event at the 2024 MTNChamps/AFN National Trials in Delta state, www.aclsports.com reports.

Kure threw 77.45m to place first position, Lawrence Onyejiaka threw a PB of 66.94m to finish second while Kenechukwu Ezefor finished third position with a season best of 62.33m.

Kure told www.aclsports.com that his throw gave him hope of doing better in the 2024 season.

The Customs officer said, “I feel super excited and glad setting a new Personal Best at the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) National Trials and it also inspires me to push harder for more. I resumed training the first week of January because I know I have to improve my standard. In the last five years, I have been struggling to surpass my own record; this was one of the motivating factors.

“The throw means a whole lot to me, it gave me hope that I can do better because I still feel that I have a reserve as the work is still in progress”.

Kure expressed optimism of making Nigeria proud at the 13th African Games in Ghana.

He said, “By the grace of God and through the support I get from my boss Coach Samuel Onikeku, I believe I am going to make Nigeria super proud at the 13th African Games in Ghana.
