Rivers Angels and Nasarawa Amazons will go head to head in the final of the 2025 President Federation Cup after both sides secured impressive semi-final victories in their respective matches, www.aclsports.com reports.
Rivers Angels booked their place in the final with a narrow 1-0 win over Ibom Angels in a fiercely contested encounter. The match, played at high intensity from the outset, saw both teams push hard for early control.
Rivers Angels (L) came closest in the 10th minute when Patience Otubo struck the post, but Ibom Angels held firm. Their goalkeeper, Godstime Dickson, delivered a standout performance, pulling off several crucial saves to keep the game goalless, including a brilliant stop from a Mary Moses header early in the second half at the Enyimba Stadium, Aba.
The breakthrough finally came in the 63rd minute. Substitute Aminat Folorunsho made an immediate impact, latching onto a loose ball and firing a powerful shot past the impressive Dickson to give Rivers Angels a well-deserved lead.
Despite a late surge and another near miss from Folorunsho in the 85th minute, the margin remained slim. The closing minutes brought drama as Otubo was sent off for retaliation, reducing the reigning champions to ten players. However, they held on to secure their spot in the final.
In the second semi-final, Nasarawa Amazons produced a disciplined and clinical performance to earn a 2-0 win over Edo Queens at the Ayingba Township Stadium in Kogi State.
The first half saw both sides create chances, with Nasarawa enjoying more attacking momentum but unable to convert their dominance into goals. Edo Queens had a few promising moments of their own, yet the opening 45 minutes ended goalless.
The turning point came in the second half when Nasarawa head coach Christopher Danjuma made key tactical changes, introducing Ayatsea Hembafan and Bibiana Odoh. The substitutions proved inspired, Hembafan broke the deadlock in the 71st minute, and Odoh sealed the win with a composed finish in the 88th.
The victory not only sent Nasarawa Amazons to the final but also served as sweet revenge. Their goalless draw with Edo Queens in the final match of the NWFL Super Six here had denied them the league title, and this result gives them a shot at silverware redemption.
Rivers Angels will now attempt to retain their crown and clinch a record extending 10th Federation Cup title, while Nasarawa Amazons will be aiming for their third as they continue a strong campaign.
The Nigeria Football Federation is expected to announce the official date and venue for the final in the coming days, with fans eagerly awaiting what promises to be a thrilling showdown between two of Nigeria’s top women’s football teams.
Final Scores:
