Nigeria is set to face Zambia in their opening match on Saturday at the 2024 IHF U18 Men’s Trophy Africa in Ethiopia, according to www.aclsports.com

The 2024 IHF Trophy Africa (Youth and Junior) will take place in Addis Ababa from 2nd to 6th November. Nigeria and Zambia are grouped alongside Ethiopia in Group B. Nigeria battles Ethiopia on Monday by 3pm.

Emeka Nnamani’s team is aiming to retain the continental title after defeating Ghana 33-25 to emerge as the champion of the IHF Trophy Men Africa Zone 3 Phase in Accra.

Nnamani, head coach of Nigeria U18 Men team revealed a 14-man squad to represent the country.

The list of players includes top chaps such as Captain Faruk Kareem alongside multi-talented player Azeez Suliamon who is the MVP of the Ardova Handball Premier League 2023 and goalkeeper Samuel Obabori; all from Tojemarine Academy.

Others include Aliyu Rufai of Corrections Boys, Suliamon Sani of Niger United, Musa Mohammed of Safety Shooters and Ganiu Aduragbemi of Lagos Seasider Boys of Lagos amongst others.

Nnamani stated, “This group of players has been selected from a wide pool of talented under-18 handball athletes, and I am confident they will make our country proud, just as they did during the zonal phase in Ghana earlier this year.”

Goalkeepers: Obabori Samuel (Tojemarine HC) and Atahiru Sahabi (Sokoto Rima HC)

Center Back: Faruk Kareem (Tojemarine HC) and Fashogbon Abayomi (Lagos Seasiders)

Right back: Azeez Sulaimon (Tojemarine HC)

Left-back: Foloki Christian (Tojemarine HC), Isyiaka Mustapha (Tojemarine HC), Musa Mohamed (Safety Shooters) and Aliyu Rufa’i (Correction Boys HC)

Pivot: Yusuf Sulaiman (Tojemarine HC)

Left Wing: Mohamed Mustapha (Tojemarine HC), and Akani Basit (Lagos seasiders)

Right Wing: Ganiu Aduragbemi (Lagos seasiders) and Sulaiman Sani (Niger United)
