Nigeria Senior Women’s Handball team defeated Ghana 39–18 in their opening match of the inaugural IHF Women’s Nations Trophy Africa Zone III in Ouagadougou on Thursday, www.aclsports.com reports.
Nigeria controlled the opening half at the Palais des Sports de Ouaga 2000, establishing a clear advantage to take an 18–7 lead into half-time as Ghana struggled to keep pace.
Coach Michael Taangahar’s side continued in the same vein after the restart, maintaining their intensity at both ends of the court. Their attacking combinations remained effective, while a disciplined defensive display restricted Ghana’s chances of mounting a comeback.
They added 21 goals in the second half to complete a 39–18 victory and make a strong start to their campaign, with Queen Modebe among the key performers and named Player of the Match.
Nigeria face hosts Burkina Faso in their next Group Stage fixture on Friday, 4 September, in Ouagadougou.
