Head coach of the Super Falcons expressed his disappointment following a controversial call which saw the Super Falcons of Nigeria lose 1-0 to France in the final group game of the ongoing FIFAWWC.

Super Falcons of Nigeria put up a disciplined performance on Monday evening against France by were unlucky to lose to a VAR call.

Speaking after the match, Coach Thomas Dennerby described his players as heroes but when asked if he felt hard done by the entire VAR drama and the decision to retake the penalty he said: “Honestly if I give you my honest feelings I might be sent home so it’s better I don’t say anything.

“Ofcourse I’m disappointed by the result and France is a really good team they don’t need support from anybody to win games,” Dennerby said after the loss. “And I feel so sorry because the girls were fighting very well and they followed the match plan.”

That said, the Super Falcons still have a shot at qualification depending on the result of other third placed teams.

As it stands, two best loser spots have been taken with two left. Should two of the following three scenarios play out, the Super Falcons will be out of the 2019 FIFAWWC.

1. Scotland vs Argentina: A win for either side knocks out the Super Falcons

2. Cameroon vs New Zealand: A 2+ goal win margin for either side means the Super Falcons are out

3. Chile vs Thailand: A 4-0 win for Chile eliminates the Super Falcons

Hence, the 20 year wait for the Super Falcons of Nigeria to qualify from the group stage hangs in the balance and will be decided by subsequent games in other groups.
