Nigeria will face Kenya and DR Congo in the inaugural edition of the FIBA AfroCan taking place at the Palais des Sports Salamatou Maiga in Bamako, Mali from Saturday, July 19.
The FIBA AfroCan is a senior men’s national team competition involving domestic based players with the exception of 2 foreign based players.
The aim is to give domestic based players an opportunity to gain experience and exposure in a continental tournament.
In the draws conducted on Saturday July 13, in the Cape Verde capital city of Praia, 12 teams were grouped into 4 groups of 3 teams each.
In the first phase, each team will take on the two (2) opponents in its respective group in one-leg game.
Each group winners will progress directly to the quarter-finals while second and third place teams will play qualification round for the quarter-finals. The winners will qualify for the quarter-finals.
The winners of the quarter-final advance to semi-finals, while the losers will play the classification games for the 5 – 8 Places.
The classification game for Third-Place and the Final will be played on the last day of competition, July 27.
