FIBA ABL: Smouha beat Petro Atletico, face Al Ahly in Elite 8

Smouha of Egypt will face their compatriots Al Ahly in the Elite 8 of the FIBA Africa Basketball League after beating Petro Atletico 79-62 to finish top of Group D.

While Petro Atletico who finished second in the group will battle fellow Angolans, Primeiro de Agosto who finished top of Group C.

James Justice had 25 points and six rebounds and seven assists while Adamu Saaka scored 12 points and four rebounds for Smouha.

Justice netted 4 of his 8 three pointers and 100% from the free throw line and in total, Smouha had 10/20 from behind the arc and made 21 of 26 from the line.

The two teams had already qualified for the Elite 8 on Saturday but where battling for the top spot in Group D.

Leonel Paulo came off the bench to score a team high 24 points for Petro Atletico but it was not enough to grab the victory from the Egyptians who had 34 from the defensive board and a total of 40 rebounds in the game.

Petro Atletico could only score 2 of their 30 three pointers in the entire game and 17/36 from the line.

In the second game, ASB Mazembe beat host Club OmniSports Police Nationale (COSPN) 94-70 to finish third in group D while COSPN failed to win a game on home court.

Gege KIzubanata led the way for Mazembe with 25 points and six rebounds while Aubin Junior Kasongo (19), Rodrigue Tambwe (13), and Alex N’Sasse (10).

COSPN were guilty of 26 turn overs and scored 40.6% field goals in the game.
