The CAF Appeal Board has upheld the decision to annul Edo Queens penalty shoot-out victory over Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-B qualifying final, www.aclsports.com reports.
In a ruling dated October 16, the Board upheld a September 26 decision by CAF’s Organising Committee for Women’s Football to annul Edo Queens’ 4-1 penalty shoot-out victory after the final ended 2-2 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on September 5.
The NFF had challenged the decision, arguing that Edo Queens should not be held responsible for the procedural error because the team followed the instructions of the appointed match officials.
Despite the appeal, the Board upheld the annulment of the shoot-out and ordered the match to resume from the start of extra time, with the score at 2-2.
The continuation will consist of two 15-minute periods of extra time, followed by a penalty shoot-out if the teams remain level. CAF is also required to appoint different match officials for the resumption.
Addressing the appeal proceedings, the Board held that any procedural irregularity at the initial stage had been remedied by allowing both clubs to present their cases, in line with Article 59(1) of the CAF Disciplinary Code.
The remaining provisions of the original decision were upheld, while all other claims and requests for relief were dismissed.
Consequently, Edo Queens and Ampem Darkoa Ladies must return to the pitch to determine the WAFU-B qualifying final, with the winner securing the zone’s place in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
