The NFF has appealed the CAF decision to annul Edo Queens victory over Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-B qualifying final, www.aclsports.com reports.
CAF ruled that Edo Queens’ 4-1 penalty shoot-out victory could not stand after the final ended 2-2 in Ouagadougou on September 5, with the required extra time not played.
The NFF, in its appeal filed on Tuesday, September 29, is asking CAF to restore Edo Queens’ result, arguing that the Nigerian side followed the instructions of the appointed match officials.
“Edo Queens neither elected nor requested that extra time be dispensed with,” the federation argued.
It further stated: “The fact that Edo Queens ultimately won the shoot-out cannot retrospectively convert its compliance with the referee’s instruction into responsibility for the regulatory breach.”
The federation is also asking CAF’s Appeals Committee to consider the circumstances surrounding the decision to proceed directly to penalties and identify the legal basis for cancelling the shoot-out, particularly as neither participating club was responsible for the procedural error.
The outcome of the appeal will determine whether Edo Queens retain their WAFU-B title and qualification ticket for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League or whether the final will proceed from the 2-2 scoreline as ordered by CAF.
