Nigeria International full back, Tyronne Ebuehi, has played his first game for Portuguese side, SL Benfica, on Friday since joining the former European Champions earlier this year.

Ebuehi played for 18minutes after coming on as a second half substitute, replacing teammate, Andre Almeida on the 72nd minute of their preseason friendly against fellow Portuguese club, Victoria Setubal.

The match ended 1-1, as Chiquinho’s second half goal canceled out Ferreyra’s 33rd minute opener for the Portuguese giants.

The 22-year-old joined Benfica on a free transfer from Dutch side, ADO Den Haag before flying out for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia with the Super Eagles.

He signed a five-year deal with the club, but was not expected to join his new side until after the world cup.

However, the defender, who helped ADO to a seventh place finish in the Eredivisie last season, was gleefully welcomed by his new teammates after he finally joined them in training on Thursday.

Having finished behind Porto in second last season, Benfica will be hoping Ebuehi would play a crucial role as Rui Vitoria’s men attempt to win back the title from their fiercest rivals.

During his time at ADO, Ebuehi, who won his first competitive cap for Nigeria when he came off the bench in the 2-0 win over Iceland in Russia, featured 82times, scoring just one goal.
