DTigress: Macaulay and Ibekwe miss out on Atlanta camp

DTigress Head Coach, Otis Hughley has invited 16 players to a 10 day training camp in Atlanta, USA as part of preparations for the Tokyo Olympics.

The training camp which is to be held at Fairfield Inn & Suites, Atlanta started on Sunday, 31st of January and will end on Monday, 8th of February.

Despite notable absentees like Ify Ibekwe and Victoria Macaulay who reportedly wasn’t released by her club side, the roaster is largely dominated by returning team members with five new additions.

Team captain, Adaora Elonu who plays for Uni Girona CB leads the Spanish contingent which has Elo Edeferioka of Celta de Vigo Baloncesto and Atonye Nyingifa of Ensino Lugo Club de Baloncesto.

Most Valuable Player of the 2019 FIBA Afrobasket, Ezinne Kalu who plays for Landerneau BB makes a return to the team with Promise Amukamara of Charnay BB and Evelyn Akhator of Flammes Carolo, all based in France. 

The five new faces joining the team is headlined by centre, Elizabeth Williams who plays for Atlanta Dreams in the WNBA and 26th overall draft pick, Erica Ogwumike of Minnesota Lynx also in the WNBA.

Nicole Enabosi will have another chance to be a part of the team after missing out of the 2018 FIBA World Cup in Spain due to injury she suffered while with the team. Amy Okonkwo of Club Deportivo Zamarat in Spain and Oderah Chidom of Tsmoki-Minsk BC, Bulgaria complete the list.

Other returning players handed an invitation by coach Hughley include Sarah Ogoke; Sarah Imovbioh of Club Namur-Capital, Belgium; Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpannah of Pallacanestro Vigarano, Italy; 20yr old guard, Elizabeth Balogun of Louisville Cardinals as well as Kosovo Superleague side, KB Bashkimi new signing & four time FIBA Afrobasket women winner, Aisha Balarabe.
