African champions Nigeria’s D’Tigress closed their three-game exhibition series against China with an 88-77 victory in Foshan on Wednesday, www.aclsports.com reports.
Nigeria, who lost the opening two games 70-67 and 69-65 respectively, produced an impressive display in the final meeting at the Nanhai Sports Center Gymnasium in Foshan City to secure their first win of the series.
D’Tigress made a flying start to the contest, outscoring China 32-17 in the opening quarter before extending their advantage with a 26-12 second-quarter display to open up a commanding 58-29 lead at halftime.
China responded after the break, winning the third quarter 23-13 and the fourth 25-17, but Nigeria’s sizeable first-half cushion proved enough to secure an 88-77 victory.
Rena Wakama’s side will now continue their preparations in Spain, where they are scheduled to face hosts Spain and Belgium in a series of warm-up games in Tenerife from August 15 to 24.
Nigeria will then move to Zaragoza for further exhibition matches against Mali and Puerto Rico between August 25 and September 3 before the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup tips off in Berlin, Germany, on September 4.
