Finland giants HJK Helsinki have completed the signing of striker David Olorunfemi from Nigerian side Tripple 44 Football Academy, www.aclsports.com reports.
The 19-year-old, who has signed a contract until the end of the 2027 season with an option to extend until the 2028 season, has been on the radar of several clubs, but the Finnish side is glad to have captured him.
”It feels great to be here, this is a great opportunity for me. Striving for domestic success and the European Championships is exactly the kind of challenge I have been looking for. I can’t wait to help the team to the best of my ability,” said Olorunfemi in his first press conference after his unveiling.
Several other Nordic clubs, including Denmark and Sweden, were after the signing of the strong and goal-hungry striker, but Olorunfemi ended up choosing the HJK.
”We had been watching David for a long time. He is really good at protecting the ball and an excellent finisher, and these qualities have been very visible in his first training sessions here. He has adapted extremely well to Finland in just a few days, and he seems eager to play,” said HJK’s sports director Petri Vuorinen.
On his part, the chairman of Tripple 44 Academy, Olatunji Okuku, spoke glowingly about Olorunfemi, describing him as one of the hardest-working and most ambitious players to have gone through the Academy.
Olorunfemi becomes the latest player to emerge from Tripple 44, joining a growing list of talents now plying their trade in Europe, including Ibrahim Adewale and Emmanuel Godwin, among others.
Olorunfemi arrived in Finland last weekend and has been training at HJK Klubi 04’s training ground this week. Olorunfemi, who is playing in Europe for the first time, could make his debut in his side’s home match against KTP on Saturday.
