Nigeria’s Junior Female YellowGreens secured their place in the semi-finals of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier Division 1 with a 57-run victory over Tanzania on Wednesday, www.aclsports.com reports.
After winning the toss and electing to bat against the hosts, Nigeria posted 133 for 7 in their 20 overs at the NTS, TCA Cricket Arena. Omosigho Eguakun top-scored with 50 off 46 balls, including seven boundaries, while Peace Usen added 32 from 35 deliveries.
Nigeria’s innings was built around Eguakun and Usen after the early dismissals of Beauty Oguai and Christabel Chukwuonye. Deborah Bassey then provided late impetus with 14 off eight balls as the Junior Female YellowGreens finished on 133 for 7.
Tanzania struggled to keep pace in the chase, losing wickets at regular intervals. Saumu Hussein top-scored with 29 off 40 balls, while Rahma Yahaya made 21, but the hosts finished on 76 for 8 from their 20 overs.
Chisom Okpe was Nigeria’s leading bowler with 2 for 14 from four overs, while Jennifer Godwin also claimed 2 for 9. Shola Adekunle and Glory Idiahi took one wicket apiece as Nigeria maintained control throughout the innings.
The victory sealed a flawless Group A campaign for the Junior Female YellowGreens, who finished with three wins from three matches after previously defeating Uganda and Malawi.
Eguakun was named Player of the Match for her match-winning half-century and received a guard of honour from her team-mates after the game.
