Nigeria Junior Female YellowGreens secured their second straight win in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier Division 1 after beating Malawi by 94 runs on Monday, www.aclsports.com reports.
The Junior Female YellowGreens posted 152 for 7 from their 20 overs before bowling Malawi out for 58 in 18.3 overs to seal a 94-run victory at the Estim, TCA Cricket Arena.
Shola Adekunle top-scored for Nigeria with 32 off 27 balls, hitting five fours, while Omosigho Eguakun and Beauty Oguai both made 26. Christabel Chukwuonye added 20 off 12 balls, including two fours and a six, as Nigeria set a target of 153.
Princess Chidatha was Malawi’s leading wicket-taker with 2 for 26 from four overs, while Bridget Kasinja, Favour Piliyesi and Sphiwe Frank also claimed wickets as Nigeria lost seven wickets.
Nigeria’s bowlers kept Malawi under pressure during the chase, with Sphiwe Frank offering resistance with 24 off 26 balls, including four fours, while Shavon Akileni added 14 from 24 balls. Jennifer Godwin led Nigeria’s attack with 4 for 5 from 2.3 overs, while Adekunle and Anointed Akhigbe claimed two wickets apiece as Malawi were bowled out for 58.
Adekunle was named Player of the Match after contributing 32 runs and two wickets. The win follows Nigeria’s victory over Uganda and leaves them unbeaten after two matches.
Nigeria will next face hosts Tanzania on Wednesday, 2 September, at 12pm WAT in their third match of the qualifier.
