Nigeria forward, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu has left San Diego Wave FC following the club’s announcement of its end-of-year roster decisions ahead of the 2026 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season, www.aclsports.com reports.

The announcement on Tuesday, 9 December 2025, confirmed that Okwuchukwu, alongside Hillary Beall, Kyra Carusa, Mya Jones and Makenzy Robbe, will enter free agency and will not re-sign with the club.

Okwuchukwu joined San Diego Wave FC on 13 January 2025 from Rivers Angels, signing a one-year contract for the 2025 season. She made an immediate impact, scoring just 1 minute and 32 seconds into her debut against Orlando Pride on 29 March 2025, the second fastest debut goal in NWSL history.

She earned her first start in the following game, a 2–0 loss to Kansas City Current, before a lower-leg injury sidelined her on 30 July 2025, which placed her on the Season-Ending Injury List. In total, the 19-year-old appeared in three matches, logging 144 minutes and scoring one goal.

In a farewell, San Diego FC expressed gratitude: “Thank you, Chiamaka and Mya.”

Having impressed in both Nigeria and the United States, supporters will be eagerly watching the next chapter for the 2024 CAF Women’s Young Player of the Year nominee.
