Alex Iwobi and Arsenal are out of the 2018/2019 Carabao Cup following a 2-0 defeat to North London rivals, Tottenham, at the Emirates on Wednesday evening.

Goals from Heung-Min Son and Dele Alli were all Spurs needed to book their place in the semifinal of the competition.

Nigeria international, Iwobi, who was underwhelming in the match, played for just under an hour before he was replaced by French forward, Alexandre Lacazette, on 58minutes.

The result means Iwobi and his team suffer back to back losses after their defeat to Southampton in the Premier League at the weekend ended their 22-game unbeaten run.

For Spurs, the victory means they not only sealed a semifinal place in the Carabao Cup but also win at the Emirates for the first time since 2010.

Elsewhere in the Cup, Chelsea had their talisman. Eden Hazard, to thank after they narrowly overcame a spirited Bournemouth side 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Hazard came of the bench to score the only goal the match with six minutes left on the clock to send the Blues through to the last four.

The Belgian came on for English midfielder, Ross Barkley, just after the hour mark.

Meanwhile, following their victory at the Emirates, Tottenham will face another difficult London rivals, Chelsea, in the semifinal of the Carabao Cup, after the draws were made immediately after Wednesday games.

In the other semifinal pairing, English champions, Manchester City will take league one outfit, Burton Albion.

The first leg of the semifinal matches will take place on January 7, with the second leg scheduled for January 21, 2019.
