Rivers United star Chiamaka Madu believes his side have what it takes to get a decent result when they face Motema Pemba in a CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC) match in Luanda on Sunday.

Madu was on target when Rivers United drew 2-2 at Bayelsa United in a rescheduled league game in midweek, three days after their impressive 3-0 win over ASEC Mimosas in their previous Confederation Cup group game.

The midfielder is part of the team’s contingent that arrived at the Angolan capital on Friday night with heightened optimism of getting a result against the dreaded Congolese side DC Motema Pembe.

“We have what it takes to get a decent result here in Luanda,” began Chiamaka Madu to www.aclsports.com

“For us to qualify (from the group), we have to pick some points away from home and I believe the players know what is at stake and we are ready for the game.”

Nigerian champions Rivers United are currently second in the group after the win against ASEC erased their forgettable 3-0 loss at Diables Noirs in match day one of the group stage. They however face Motema Pembe who are without a win and without a goal, yet without a loss in their first two games.

Madu who is an experienced campaigner in the Confederation Cup having played for Rangers between 2016 and 2020 says his side remain focused on the task at hand.

“We are not carried away by our recent result against ASEC Mimosas as we’re looking forward to Sunday’s game in Luanda and I believe everyone knows what the point is going to be at Rivers United and we are focused on achieving the task,” added the former Rangers International star.

Motema Pembe vs Rivers United, billed for the November 11 Stadium, Luanda will commence at 8pm Nigerian time on Sunday.
