Bayelsa Queens entered the 2024/2025 NWFL Super Six in blistering form, having completed the regular season unbeaten: 14 matches, 10 wins, 4 draws, and 0 losses. They boasted the best defence, conceding only 5 goals and scored 26, with 14 different players finding the net. With such stats, all eyes were firmly on Coach Whyte Ogbonda’s side heading into the Super Six tournament.

Their campaign so far in the Super Six has continued in the same dominant vein, extending their unbeaten run to 17 games after three matches. A hard-fought victory over their South-South rivals Rivers Angels; followed by a spirited comeback draw against Nasarawa Amazons, despite being a player down, secured four points ahead of their crucial clash with hosts Remo Stars Ladies.

Coach Ogbonda (L), speaking ahead of that fixture, stressed its significance:

“We’re going to approach that match with all seriousness. Anything less than a win for Bayelsa Queens, and we’re out of the tournament.”

True to his words, the Prosperity Girls delivered. First-half goals from Chinwe Akabike and a stunning cross turned-shot by Sefiat Idris sealed a 2-0 win against Remo Stars Ladies, placing Bayelsa Queens joint top of the table with Nasarawa Amazons on seven points.

With a deep and versatile squad, Coach Ogbonda has managed his squad brilliantly, using smart rotations to keep the team sharp. Following the victory over Remo, he attributed the team’s stellar season to strong financial backing from the Bayelsa State Government.

He also emphasised the players’ ambitions “Many of these girls want to play abroad. Performing well here and qualifying for the CAF Women’s Champions League gives them a platform to showcase their talents to international scouts.”

Now, with momentum on their side and the CAF Women’s Champions League qualification within reach, the Queens have their sights set firmly on the title.

Coach Ogbonda remains confident “Come the 18th of this month, we’ll be bringing the trophy back to Yenagoa.”

With a tactical edge, squad depth, and belief, Bayelsa Queens look like a team on a mission. But the big question remains; can the unbeaten Prosperity Girls go all the way and clinch the crown on the final day?
