Super Eagles’ Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi scored to help Fulham beat Manchester United 2-1 in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Saturday, www.aclsports.com reports.

Bassey and Iwobi, who both had a great time at the AFCON with Nigeria, scored either side of Harry Maguire’s equalizer for the hosts to lead the Cottagers to just their second away win of the 2023/24 Premier League season.

The two Nigerians, who started on the bench in last weekend’s home defeat to Aston Villa following their return from international duty, were handed a starting berth by Marco Silva for this game against the Red Devils in Manchester.

It was Fulham who started the game the strongest, as Iwobi wasted two early opportunities to give his side the lead, flashing both efforts wide after some lovely link-up play from Rodrigo Muniz and then Andreas Pereira. Muniz, who has four goals in his last three games, almost added another to his tally as André Onana was forced into a decent save, before firing against the woodwork moments later after some good play from Iwobi.

On the other hand, United struggled to create any meaningful chance but when Alejandro Garnacho sent his sumptuous effort towards goal, defender Antonee Robinson cleared it off the line. Diogo Dalot then struck the outside of the post, before Garnacho then forced Fulham keeper Bernd Leno into a save, in an exciting 45 minutes that had everything but a goal.

Twenty minutes after the restart, Bassey smashed home his first goal for the club after the ball fell kindly in the box from a Pereira corner. Maguire, who missed a clear header moments earlier, netted in the last minute of normal time to salvage what looked like a point for United.

However, deep into stoppage time, Iwobi was put through on goal and slotted cooly past Onana – his fourth Premier League goal of the season – to secure all three points for Fulham on a dramatic afternoon in Manchester.
