Nigeria midfielder Okechukwu Azubuike has described as a “great experience” his participation in the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League with Turkish side Istanbul Başakşehir.
The Under 23 captain played the entire duration of the game but was unable to prevent his side from going down 0-2 to Olympiacos in Greece and 0-3 on aggregate.

For Azubuike, it was a dream come true.
“It was a great experience for me and I feel proud and grateful to God,” the energetic midfielder told www.aclsports.com
“It is also a dream come true for me because the Champions League is the highest level that every player dreams to participate in.”
Tuesday’s defeat ensured that Başakşehir will now drop to the group stage of the Europa League and Azubuike is waiting for his inaugural taste of action in that tournament as well.
“We are in the Europa League thankfully.
“I’m looking forward to that also with readiness to be at my best then, play well and get myself to the top,” he enthused.
In the meantime, the new season in the Turkish Super League gets underway this weekend with Başakşehir travelling to Yeni Malatyaspor on Sunday.
It will be a homecoming of some sort for Azubuike as Yeni are the club that brought him to Europe from Nigerian side Bayelsa United.
“I’m looking forward to the weekend against Yeni Malatyaspor.
“It’s always emotional playing against them, but I’m going to help my team get a win to boost our confidence ahead of subsequent matches,” said Azubuike.
