Andreas Pereira’s loan move to La Liga outfit, Valencia, has left Manchester United’s manager, José Mourinho, frustrated and ‘disappointed’.

Pereira sealed a late loan move to Valencia, just before deadline day despite glowing praise from Mourinho, who hailed the 21-year-old as a ‘future great’ at Old Trafford.

But his surprise move to Spain, where he impressed last season on loan at relegated side Granada, was against the wishes of his Portuguese manager.

“Andreas Pereira’s decision to [go on loan to Valencia] was a personal one,” Mourinho revealed during his press conference ahead of the trip to Stoke City on Saturday.

“But he has a long-term contract [here], so we have an option to bring him back on 1 January, so we have that situation under control.”

Mourinho added that his disappointment stems from Pereira’s unwillingness to stay back and fight for a place in the team.

“It can be considered a decision of a player who isn’t ready to fight for something difficult. I’m disappointed,” he added.

United are away at Stoke City this weekend, and currently top the league table with nine points.
