Amusan headlines Nigeria squad for 2026 CAA Championships

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has named a 45-athlete squad for the 2026 CAA Senior Athletics Championships in Ghana, with Tobi Amusan headlining the team alongside Rosemary Chukwuma and Favour Ashe, www.aclsports.com reports.

The championships, scheduled for May 12–17, 2026, will be held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, Legon, Accra.

Team Nigeria, a blend of experienced athletes and emerging talents, consists of 25 women and 20 men. World record holder Tobi Amusan leads the 100m hurdles lineup alongside Adaobi Tabugbo and Janet Sunday as Nigeria targets strong performances on the track.

In the sprints, Rosemary Chukwuma headlines the women’s 100m and 4x100m relay squad, where she will team up with Miracle Ezechukwu, Maria Thompson Omokwe and Tejiri Ugoh.

Patience Okon George will compete in the 400m and relay events, while Ruth Usoro and Oyesade Olatoye will feature in the long jump and hammer throw respectively. Obiageri Amaechi leads the discus throw entry, with Jessica Oji and Divine Oladipupo in the shot put.

The men’s team is equally strong, with Favour Ashe spearheading the 100m and 4x100m relay squad alongside Enoch Adegoke, Chidera Ezeakor and Tejiri Godwin.

In the 200m, Usheoritse Itsekiri will race alongside Badmus Gafari and James Taiwo Emmanuel, while the 400m and relay group includes Emmanuel Ojeli, Samson Nathaniel and Chidi Okezie.

Nigeria will also be represented in the field events by shot put star Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, long jumper Romeo Bernard, decathlete Jami Schlueter and javelin thrower Adams Samuel Kure.

The team will aim to improve on its previous performance after finishing third at the last edition in Douala, Cameroon.
