“I am delighted to be part of Austria Wien from now on.”
Top Austrian first division side Austria Wien have announced the signing of Nigerian midfielder Alhassan Ibrahim on a season-long loan deal.
Ibrahim who is regarded as one of the hottest prospects in the Nigeria Professional Football League has scored 12 goals for his side Akwa United in the league season which nears its completion next month.
Alhassan, 20, represented Nigeria at the African Under-20 AFCON in Senegal in 2015 and made his Super Eagles debut last June in a friendly in the French resort of Corsica. ‘Muazzam’ as Alhassan is fondly called will replace his compatriot Olanrewaju “Larry” Kayode at Wien after the striker joined Spanish side Girona on loan from Manchester City this summer.
Alhassan was unveiled by the UEFA Europa League campaigners on Thursday and it was confirmed he was signed from a little known academy FC Heart, meaning his NPFL side, Akwa United will have no gain from the transfer.
“I am delighted to be part of Austria Wien from now on.
“I cannot wait to get to know the team and work hard together to achieve more success with them,” Alhassan told the club’s official website.
Wien Sporting Director Franz Wohlfahrt also added: “Ibrahim Alhassan Abdullahi is a player with great potential. He is a team-player who has speed and good ball handling. We are convinced that this transfer is one with a great perspective.”
Alhassan Abdullahi Ibrahim’s departure serves a blow to Nigeria’s hopes of winning next year’s African Nations Championships after the prodigy played an inspiring role in Nigeria’s qualification last Sunday.
Ibrahim provided the assist for Nigeria’s opening goal scored by Rabiu Ali while he also played a part in the game’s second goal in the 2-0 win over Benin.
