Rwanda Government has arrested the Second Vice President of Rwanda Volley Federation, Jean de Dieu Bagirishya has been arrested following the country’s disqualification from the 2021 Women’s African Nations Championship.

The arrest was made by Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) in relation of using forged documents in exercising his functions and duties as well as his role in masterminding the import of Brazilians to the Rwandan Volleyball Women’s Team.

www.aclsports.com reports that Rwanda Volleyball Federation faces a three year ban from Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) and the ineligible players (Brazilians) including fined 5,000 Euros each.

More board members of Rwanda Volleyball Federation are likely to be held accountable, following a scandal that saw Rwanda get suspended from the tournament, moments before the final, which was scheduled for 16th September, 2021 between Rwanda and Senegal.

An investigation was launched after Nigeria and Morocco both lodged complaints over Rwanda’s use of four Brazilian players as the hosts beat both teams in the group stage of the championship.

After a three day stalemate, it was agreed that the hosts Rwanda are removed from the tournament, previous games forfeited and the players in question as well as the federation get suspended.

www.aclsports.com gathered that the unknown individual who threatened the life of Nigeria coach, Samuel Ajayi has been arrested by the Rwanda Investigation Bureau.
