Nigeria senior men’s volleyball team defeated Niger Republic 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-20) at the 2019 All Africa Games Volleyball Qualifiers in Abidjan on Saturday.

Daniel Nathaniel led the Flying Hawks of Nigeria to their first victory after the disbandment of the senior team two years ago.

Coach of the Nigerian side, Japhet Nuhu hailed the players for putting up a top notch performance against Niger Republic.

Nuhu said the team will do everything possible to win their remaining matches.

“We know what is at stake, the players cannot afford to disappoint the volleyball family and Nigerians.

The President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod commended the players for overcoming Niger Republic despite the short notice.

He advised the players not to be carried away by the victory against Niger Republic.

“I congratulate you for beating Niger Republic, this is the first test out of three,” he said.

Nigeria will face host Cote d’Ivoire on Monday in their second game of the Qualifiers ahead of the 2019 All Africa Games in Morocco.
