United had a goal cancelled, but Newcastle put up a solid performance to earn their first win against the Red Devils in five years.

Mourinho’s side were guilty of missing some good chances, with the best chances falling to the duo of Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez.

However, the home side battled hard, surviving a late pressure from their visitors to record a massive victory in their bid to survive the drop, come end of the season.

The result means United remain second, but are now 16points adrift of their rivals, Man City, while the Magpies are 13th, two points above relegation.

Meanwhile, at St. Mary’s Mohamed Salah inspired Liverpool to a comfortable win against Southampton.

The Reds defeated the Saints 2-0, thanks to two first half goals from Roberto Firmino and Salah.
