C’Wealth Games: NOC secures training scholarship for 10

The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) in collaboration Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has secured training scholarships for 10 athletes to support their preparations for Gold Coast 2018.

NOC president Habu Gumel in Lagos listed the athletes as; Ese Brume (athletics), Praise Idamadudu (athletics), Oluwatobi Amusan (athletics), Caroline Linus (boxing), Loveline Obiji (para-powerlifting) and Chinenye Fidelis (weightlifting).

Others are Paul Kehinde (para-powerlifting), Abdul-Azeez Ibrahim (para-powerlifting), Aruna Quadri (table tennis) and Blessing Oborodudu (wrestling).

The above athletes are expected to represent the country in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia between April 4th and 15th, 2018.

The former President Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) said the NOC had applied for the next phase of Olympic training scholarships for 15 Nigerian elite athletes to support their training and preparations for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Gumel also confirmed that the NOC had accredited the nation to feature in nine sports at the Commonwealth.
