First Bank lose to Primeiro in FIBAACCW semi/final

First Bank Basketball Club failed to progress to the 2017 FIBAACCW final following a 66-44 points defeat to Angolan giants Primeiro de Agosto.

Alicia DeVaughn scored a game high 17 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists, while Luisa Tomas had 10 points and 11 rebounds, Leia Dongue added 10 points while Rosa Gala contributed 11points as they led Jaime Covilha’s side to victory and also their 10th final since 2001.

Good defense by the Angolan side limited First Bank guard Dominique Wilson to just 10 points while Nkechi Akashili and Cecilia Okoye both added 10 points apiece, Nkem Akaraiwe had 10 rebounds in a game largely dominated by the Angolans.

For a second year in a row, First Bank have failed to reach the final of the FIBA Africa Champions Cup Women.
In the other semi-final, Ferroviario de Maputo overcame the defending champions InterClube 71-62 to book a spot in the final of the ongoing FIBA Africa Champions Cup Women 2017 on Saturday at the Arena Kilamba.

InterClube led the first quarter 14-12 in a close encounter and went into the half time break with a three-point lead (32-29) but however lost it with two minutes remaining in the game committing three straight turnovers to Ferroviario.

Odelia Mafanela scored a game high 19 points and 11 rebounds while Argentinian center Veronica Gisela Vega added 14 points to inspire Ferroviario de Maputo to their second straight Final.
Elephant Girls will play against InterClube in the third place game while Primeiro de Agosto will take on Mozambique Giants Ferroviario de Maputo on Sunday.
