The curtains were drawn on the 2018 World Cup qualifying series in Group B of the African zone, as Nigeria were controversially held 1-1 by Algeria.

The Super Eagles were running away with a 1-0 win, after midfielder, John Ogu had given them an excellent lead just after the hour mark.

However, with two minutes left, the referee from Gabon, Eric Otogo-Castane, awarded a very bizarre penalty to the home side for a nonexistence foul on winger, Yacine Brahimi , who stepped up to the plate to convert expertly from the spot.

Both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils, but the West African giants were already assured of their ticket to Russia next year.

Though Otogo-Castane’s decision wasn’t as painful given the dead rubber nature of the game, that didn’t stop Nigerians from reacting to the result as they took to their social media accounts to voice their thoughts.

ACLSports.com has some of those reactions, including one that should put even more smiles on the faces on Nigerians, as the Super Eagles now have the second longest unbeaten run in the world, having gone 37games unbeaten in the world cup qualifiers.

Nigeria extend their unbeaten record in World Cup qualifying to 37 games. Second only to Spain worldwide. Côte d’Ivoire second in Africa with 26. Awesome record @NGSuperEagles #ALGNGA

- Much improved second half performance by @NGSuperEagles.
- Nwakaeme did not seize his chance tonight.
- Ekong was excellent.
- Ezenwa is a crap shoot. He is not good enough for the World Cup. Do not @ me. I will ignore.#ALGNGA

First he fails to send Brahimi off for a red card offence then he awards a penalty from nowhere...nodding repeatedly like an agama lizard. #AlgNga

Back to the match…

#ALGNGA The way Algerian players rushing for the ball it looks as if they're the one going to world cup. Someone should remind them Nigeria has already qualified. 😂😂
