The Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN) under the leadership Nasarawa state deputy Governor, Silas Agara, has concluded arrangements for the National Open Championship billed to hold in Abuja in December.

The championship is to select players that will represent the country at the 2020 Olympics qualifiers. Dep. Gov Agara sponsored some athletes to the UFAK Zone three championship in Cotonou, Benin Republic where the country won two gold, two silver and three bronze medals last August

In an interview with aclsports.com, the technical director KFN, Dave Jegede said the championship is the beginning and making of a new national karate team. He said athletes will be picked based on current form and dedication.

“As we prepare for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, athletes discovered here will represent Nigeria at various international events”, he said “The Commonwealth Games, WKF Championship, All African Games are fast approaching, so we as a federation want to be prepared. Our motto is that of the Boys Scouts: Be prepared always“.
