Nigeria Javelin thrower, Kelechi Nwanaga has set her sights on the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games.

Nwanaga, a Congo Brazaville 2015 Africa Games gold medallist, told aclsports.com that her focus is to win a medal for Nigeria at the prestigious games.

Nwanaga last July broke a 15-year-old national record with a 58.15m throw previously held by Sorochukwu Ihuefo (55.30m) in 2002.

The fast rising thrower said she will perform well if the authorities motivate her with the necessary equipment. Nwanaga failed to qualify in the Javelin event for the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships.

“What I need is either the Nordic or Nemeth Javelin which is in vogue at international competitions,’’ she said. “I need the help of sponsors, exposure, training tours and good equipment because the one I am using now is not even good to train with any longer”.

“If sponsors can do this for me, they should expect nothing less than a gold medal in 2020 from me. You can only use the Javelin I use now to train upcoming athletes to show them that this is Javelin,’’ she said.

She added that she hoped to be among the first five in the world.
