Eding Sport de la Lékié are the new champions of Cameroon domestic league after crushing New Star 3-0 by midweek to power their lead to an unassailable 60 points, with a game to spare.

Second on the table are 2015 champions Cotonsport, who hold 51 points and will not be able to catch up even if they win their final game of the weekend.

Founded in 2012, Eding Sport based in Lékié, central Cameroon, are playing their second season ever in the elite division having gained promotion in 2015.

The Blue and White ran a fairytale campaign that stunned many in the central African country.

After 31 matches, they boast of 60 points from 16 wins, 12 draws, and losing only three games.

“It is a beautiful result which shows that hard work pays. Imagine, two seasons ago we were in division two. Today, we are the champions of Cameroon,” said Saint Fabien Mvogo, president of Eding Sport.

Defending champions UMS de Loum are hanging on sixth position after struggling in the final lap of the campaign, claiming one win in their last five matches.

However, the shock of the season is the relegation of one of Cameroon’s top sides Canon de Yaoundé, who won just five games from 31 appearances, losing 15 and recording 26 points.

New champions Eding Sport, who will represent Cameroon in the upcoming CAF Champions League, played all their home games of the season at the Lékié Municipal Stadium, a 1,200-seater facility.
