Former National U19 player, Marvellous Chilota has been named the new captain of Kada Emeralds Volleyball Club ahead of the 2024 Comptroller General of Customs Volleyball Premier League.

The first phase of the 2024 Comptroller General of Customs Volleyball Premier League is scheduled for 24th August to 10th September at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

Chilota’s appointment follows the exclusion of former captain, Dorothy Joseph, who took leave from volleyball due to personal reasons.

According to Florence Yori, Team Manager of Kada Emeralds, the decision to announce Marvellous Chilota as captain of the side was decided by the entire team.

Yori told www.aclsports.com  that key Kada Emeralds players are missing due to the exclusion of foreign professional players from the league.

She said, “After consultations with the players, Marvellous Chilota got appointed as the new Captain of the Kada Emeralds VC. To keep the team in the spirit of winning, there is a need to reorganise the leadership system.

“Following the decision of the League Management Committee (LMC) to exclude foreign professionals in this year’s league, Kada Emeralds lost key players in the teams (men and women). In addition, some of the club senior players are also engaged in academy pursuit that sees them missing the forthcoming league.

“The young players are a sensation to watch anytime as most of them, if not all, are also products of volleyball academies. Kada Emeralds finished four places last season and we hope to better our performance this season.

Yori added that Kada Emeralds VC will continue to give opportunities to younger players in the top flight league.

“Kada Emeralds was formed in 2018 at the wake of the Nigeria Premier Volleyball League, with the mission of giving younger players the opportunity to have playing time.

“Majority of the players of the team are students of higher institutions across the states, supported by the Chairman of Kaduna State Volleyball Association, Engineer Musa Nimrod”, she added.

Marvellous Chilota is a student of Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic in Zaria, where she is studying Mass Communication.
