2020 NSF: 6 states set for the N/Central Zonal eliminations

Kwara, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi and FCT will be slugging it out at the the North Central Zonal eliminations of the 2020 National Sports Festival in Ilorin.

The zonal elimination is slated for 21st to 24th January, 2020 at the Kwara state stadium.

Kwara, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi and FCT excluding Benue state will battle for slots in seven team sports.

Kwara state Director of sports, Mallam Tunde Kazeem told newsmen that some states have automatically qualified from the zone due to absence of four to five states in the sports.

He said, “Nasarawa state is the only state available for the women’s basketball and that means they have qualified for the National Sports Festival.

“For Cricket, Kwara state is the only men’s team available while Kogi and FCT brought their teams for the zonal eliminations.

“In the handball event, Plateau state and Kwara state are the only teams in Ilorin for the zonal eliminations; both of them will face each other to know who comes first despite them sealing their qualifications”.

Kazeem called on residents of Ilorin to come out in their numbers to cheer the teams participating in the zonal eliminations of the National Sports Festival.

Kwara State 86 – 60 Nasarawa State

Handball:

Nasarawa State 17-20 Plateau State

FCT 41-25 Kwara state

Basketball

Male: Kwara, Plateau, Niger and Nasarawa

Female: Nasarawa

Beach Volleyball

Male: Kogi, Plateau, Kwara and FCT

Female: Kogi, Plateau, Kwara and FCT

Cricket

Male: Kwara

Women: Kogi and FCT

Football

Male: Kwara, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi and FCT (2 groups)

Women: Kwara

Handball

Male: Kwara, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi and FCT (2 groups)

Women: Plateau and Kwara

Hockey

Male: Niger and Nasarawa

Female: Plateau

Volleyball

Male: Plateau, Kwara and Nasarawa

Women: Plateau, Niger and Nasarawa
