Zenith Bank showers D’Tigress with cash gifts for Afrobasket success

Sponsor of the Nigeria female basketball league, Zenith Bank PLC has rewarded D’Tigress and their officials for their Afrobasket win on Sunday.

Zenith Bank gave coaches, players and members of the backroom staff the sum of 200,000 naira each for their 2017 Afrobasket success.

At a brief reception held at the corporate headquarters of the bank in Lagos and presided over by the Managing Director, Mr Peter Amangbo, the gesture is part of their efforts to recognize excellence and continue their support for women’s basketball in Nigeria.

Amangbo lauded the Sam Vincent-led team for reclaiming the title they last won in 2005.

“We salute your courage and resilience in the face of adversity. Beating the champions of Africa twice and defeating the host in the semi final was not an accident but as a result of hardwork and courage,”he said.

Amangbo promised their continous support for the women’s basketball league and next year’s Women’s World Cup in Spain.

“Zenith bank has been the sole sponsor for the Nigeria female basketball league for 12 years. We will not just stop at rewarding the team after their 2017 Afrobasket win, but we will be a strong supporter of the team as they prepare for the 2018 FIBA world cup.”

In his response, Vice President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Babs Ogunade thanked Zenith Bank for their  support for women’s basketball in Nigeria.

According to him, the presence of 3 home based players (Atosu Upe, Akashili Nkechi and Chioma Okoro) is a testimony of the role played by Zenith Bank in their continued development of basketball in Nigeria.

Captain of the side, Aisha Mohammed thanked Zenith Bank for rewarding their efforts after going unbeaten in 8 games  played at the Afrobasket championship in Mali.

“We will try our best to ensure we bring more honours to the country. And in the World Cup next year, we promise to do our best when we file out against the rest of the world.”
