Team Nigeria wrestlers to the World Wrestling Championship are expected to arrive the shores of the country by 12:30pm on Monday August the 28th.

For the first time, Nigeria won a silver medal at the World Championship through Odunayo Adekuoroye (55kg), qualified for a bronze medal match through Blessing Oborududu (63kg) and had another wrestler in the quarterfinals, Aminat Adeniyi (58kg) all in the female category.

The contingent expected are; Aminat Adeniyi, Blessing Oborududu, Odunayo Adekuoroye and female head coach, Purity Akuh.

According to Daniel Igali, President of Nigeria Wrestling Federation, “We will return tomorrow. Adekuoroye, blessing, Aminat and purity will arrive via Ethiopia Air around 12:30pm”.

“I’ll be in the country much more earlier to see that machinery are put on ground to motivate the athletes when they touch ground”, Igali said.

On the preparations towards the 2018 Commonwealth Games, he said athletes will be given less than three weeks break before full scale training resumes.

“This is the beginning of another race because the 2018 Commonwealth Games is around the corner and we have to up our games if we want to excel”, he said.
