Nigeria’s Gofit Winnie will be the only Judoka flying the colours of the country at the ongoing World Judo Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The Nigeria Army officer who is also a national champion will feature in the female 70kg weight category after weighing in on Wednesday.

Gofit, the current Judo National Champion in the 70kg clinched a Gold medal at the African Wrestling Championships in Marrakech, Morocco.

Gofit is accompanied by coach, Ekuta Catherine Ewa as she’ll be contesting to be the Africa Representative on the Athletes’ Commission of the International Judo Federation.

Coach Ewa, a seasoned Judoka, represented Nigeria at the 2004 Olympics in Athens and won three medals at the All African Games Medalist in the 57kg category.

Meanwhile, President Nigeria Judo Federation, Prince Timothy Nsirim, charged Gofit to be a good ambassador of the country adding that whatever the outcome of the championship, he’s proud of her.

Nsirim also congratulated Ralph Ubah of the Nigeria Police Force for winning Bronze Medal at the just concluded World Police Games in the USA.
